Comprehensive Speech Pathology Assessment

  • Little Hive Therapy takes a neurodiversity-affirming approach to all assessment and therapy whereby the focus is on understanding and celebrating the diverse ways individuals communicate. Our assessment process is designed to recognise and appreciate different communication styles, strengths, and challenges. Instead of solely focusing on difficulties, we will work collaboratively with you and your child, acknowledging their unique abilities and preferences.

  • During the initial session, you can expect our speech pathologists to take a holistic approach, considering not only speech, language, literacy and feeding skills but also the child’s overall communication environment, preferences, and strengths. The assessment may involve the taking of a detailed case history, observations, interviews, questionnaires, interactive activities and/or formalised assessment if clinically appropriate.

Intervention

  • Frequency of intervention is dependent on individual children’s goals and will be discussed with parents and carer's at initial assessment. A standard speech pathology intervention session runs for a total of 45 minutes face to face with an additional 15 minutes of non-face to face support time for required clinical documentation. We currently offer three modes of intervention; in clinic, mobile and telehealth.

  • In Clinic- Brighton

    • Our specially designed clinic space in Brighton, 4017 allows our clients access to dedicated speech pathology services in a friendly and inviting space designed to optimise engagement and interaction.

  • Mobile Services

    • Mobile services are offered on a case by case basis which involves visits to your child’s home, school, kindergarten, childcare or location of your choosing.

    • Mobile services attract an additional travel charge calculated on distance from Brighton, 4017.

  • Telehealth

    • Telehealth services can be a great way of continuing speech pathology services when face to face is not possible for a variety of reasons e.g. location, COVID-19, logistics. Research indicates Telehealth services can be just as effective as in person services for certain children and goals e.g. speech sound disorders, literacy, social communication, parent led intervention.

Training and Consultation

  • Training and consultation is available with your child’s extended communication networks including educators, paediatricians, other allied health providers. This allows for sharing of strategies and information across all environments to best support your child’s holistic development.

Assistive Technology/ Alternative and Augmentative Communication Supports

  • If identified in consultation with your speech pathologist that assistive technology e.g. AAC/ communication devices/supports would be beneficial, your speech pathologist will work with you to complete the individualised trials of possible support options and assist navigation through the NDIS application process (if applicable).

Screening Assessments

  • On request we are able to provide full speech pathology screening services within kindergarten, childcare and school environments to assist in identifying children who may benefit from additional speech pathology intervention.
